Welcome to Tamaridge Farm

Where historic elegance and modern comfort meet natural beauty and year-round recreation

Built by John Foster circa 1779, Tamaridge Farm has a long and interesting history. Serving as a working agricultural farm producing corn, rye, hay, and apples, the property served many purposes before many adjoining towns had been populated. The property continued in this capacity until 1873. In the years following, the property served as a service station and a poultry farm and restaurant, The Chick Inn. Small cottages were also built on the property to rent for tourists and visitors in the early 20th century. One is still maintained and restored at 112 Peterborough Rd, next door. During this time, likely in the 1920s, Henry Ford stopped by the house looking for old New England artifacts for his museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford attempted to buy the front staircase, rumored to be made of revolutionary era gun boxes. The owner, Mrs. Cheney refused, reportedly saying "What comes with this house goes with this house, and it's not going to you!"  Later in the 1970s, Thoroughbred and Morgan horses were raised on the property, at which time it acquired its current name.
